FRONT ROW SEAT
is an experimental multimedia performance piece inspired by my personal experience as a burlesque performer. It explores the tangled fantasy of a body on display and out of reach.
This work utilizes innovative motion capture technology of aerial arts, testing the motion capture suit to its limits with experimental effects. Motion capture was made utilizing a Rokoko Mocap Suit, and the accompanying animation was made with Unreal Engine 5.4. The animation of my digital avatar plays in tandem with a live performance of aerial chains, a visceral burlesque act that is a poignant metaphor for the female grotesque. Front Row Seat was performed at Eternal Art Collective’s Visceral at the Atlas Performance Art Center in Washington DC and as part of Rethinking-Healing Gender at Northlight Gallery at Grant Street Studios in Phoenix, AZ.
This project was funded with the Evelyn Smith Endowed Professorship Award from the ASU School of Art.
